Ricky Martin
For some weird reason, what stuck out to me in his announcement was the term ‘fortunate homosexual man’.
I Googled the word ‘fortunate’ and found that it means ‘Receiving some unforeseen or unexpected good, or some good which was not dependent on one's own skill or efforts; favored with good fortune; lucky’
The definition got me even more confused. So who is an ‘Unfortunate homosexual man’?
Questions, questions, who will answer my questions??!!
Fortunate or Unfortunate, I actually think it takes huge guts to ‘come out’ as a gay person. It is certain that people’s attitudes toward you are going to change, and as a star/sex symbol, there is always the risk of losing an entire fanbase.
It must take a strong inner acceptance of oneself to be able to throw yourself out to the sharks, saying “This is who I’ve accepted that I am...deal with it!!”
I guess that is the internal struggle that every gay person, or rather, every human being that struggles with self-acceptance, insecurities or weaknesses in one form or the other faces.
Perhaps the entire world needs to take a cue from Ricky Martin and ‘Come Out’.

i admire his coming out like you said, the whole gay thing is still a very touchy subject, but as a heterosexual does this make me a "fortunate or unfortunate" heterosexual. why didn't he just say I'm gay, what's fortunate or unfortunate about being gay?
ReplyDeleteSame thing I'm still hoping someone can explain to me!! Fortunate or Unfortunate Sexuality...
ReplyDeleteMy thing is if you are gay, that's really your business...i don't go around asking for special treatment because i sleep with women (heterosexual) so good for him to finally announce what most of us had suspected for years...but truly, what does it matter?
ReplyDeleteMaybe am over thinking it, but what fascinated me was the fact that he announced he was gay,on the very same day Erykah Badu released the video for her latest single "Window Seat"!
ReplyDeleteIt seems like everybody is coming out!! Literally!!
@Nuke: Lol...ur not overthinking anything jare!! I'm learning more and more everyday about how nothing 'just happens'!! Something is definitely gping on and I can only hope that more and more people catch on to it!!
ReplyDelete@KDL: Those are the little issues of privacy that stardom deprives you of....hence news of someone's sexuality 'banging' me on my head first thing in the morning!!
